Last weekend the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, IL hosted the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. This year they changed it up hosting the Overton’s 400, unlike the past seven seasons when this venue hosted the Cup Playoff Opener. We were amazed with the organization, effort and time that went into making an event of this size even possible.      (PHOTO BY MOTORSPORT IMAGES-LAT)

We were very excited to see fellow Canadian Stewart Friesen race in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Friday night. Even though finishing in the 19 spot of last weekend’s race he is still ranked fourth for the 2018 season. We wish Stewart all the best and hope he continues to have a successful season.

The final lap of Sunday’s Overton’s 400 was one for the books with Kyle Larson and Kyle Busch battling it out in the last laps. Busch and Larson exchanged shots with Larson getting rubbed out in the last corner of the last lap. Even with such a dramatic finish, Larson expressed no hard feelings towards Bush. He stated “ My plan was pretty much to run into the side of him and try and slow his momentum down and was able to do that and get clear of him. I didn’t really want to be clear of him in Turn 3, though, because I knew he would get to my back bumper and move me out of the way, which he did. So, I mean, I know some fans probably already don’t like Kyle Busch, but that was just kind of hard racing there, I thought.” (PHOTO BY MOTORSPORT IMAGES-LAT)

There were multiple “atmospheres” you could take in at the Chicagoland Speedway with the overall “atmosphere” being incredible. We spent time with the die-hard NASCAR fans in the grandstands where we recorded decibel readings that rivaled rock concerts. In the Fan Zone we viewed various vendors and partook in a variety of mini-games. Then on the main levels surrounding the track we couldn’t help but feel like we were at a county fair. We sampled foot-long corndogs, mile high nachos and of course the sweet tea. The Chicagoland Speedway offered something for everyone and is truly a must see venue.

We had an amazing time covering the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series at the Chicagoland Speedway and cannot recommend this event highly enough. If you have the opportunity to attend any event at this venue we highly suggest you take it. We travelled twenty hours round trip in a Nissan Micra and we don’t regret a minute of it.
