What other way is there to spend your August long weekend? At Kempenfest of course! For the past 46 years, Kempenfest, one of the largest craft shows in North America, is housed on the shores of Centennial beach on Kempenfelt Bay. For three days, rain or shine, wind or humidity, over 250 artisans and exhibitors display and sell their unique inventions, treats, art and antiques. Some to be mentioned from this year’s event include Spoon and Fork Jewellery, Fudge Butter Tarts, Chalkboard Photography and Upcycled/Retired Firefighter equipment.
Not a shopper? Not a problem! Kempenfest has a place for everyone. The theme park, park, craft demos and new inflatable-water park are ideal for kids and the food is to die for. At night, the entertainment is always rocking with this year’s line-up even featuring The Trews! And if none of the above interests you, take some time to support numerous local non-for-profit organizations and service clubs such as the Kiwanis Club of Barrie, The Rotary Club of Barrie, the YMCA, The Barrie Lions Club and The Knights of Columbus.
The atmosphere at Kempenfest is like no other. At what other craft show can you walk on the shoreline of beautiful downtown Barrie and Kempenfelt Bay through 1.5km of totally unique exhibitors? The event is stroller, child and even animal-friendly and is very accessible. I can assure you that you will find something that interests you here or something that sparks your own creative side. And, you are bound to run into someone that you know, even if you aren’t from Barrie. Coming from a “die-hard Kempenfester” who religiously attends and supports this event every year, this event will not leave you disappointed or empty handed. Don’t forget to bring you wallet.
